While, technically still fall, it’s clear by the temperatures that winter is near. The POCD process started during the warmer days of summer to coincide with the Downtown Municipal Development Plan (Downtown Plan) process. The Downtown Plan aims to revitalize Downtown West Haven by identifying strategies for improving it and creating a revitalized, vibrant, destination-oriented city center with attractive amenities. The two projects coordinated several public engagement activities together, including setting up booths at the Savin Rock Festival and the farmers market on the Green to make residents aware of both projects and to listen to their concerns and ideas.

Several months later, in November, the POCD consultant met with the Economic Development Commission to begin a discussion about economic development for the POCD and also started interviewing staff of various City departments. In January, a steering committee will likely formed to guide the POCD development process and, by February, a survey will be ready to send out to the community.
The Downtown Plan process is on a shorter timeline than the POCD process. In fact, the Downtown Plan is almost completed. Mark your calendars for the Downtown Plan Final Plan Recommendations Presentation on Wednesday evening, December 10 in the City Hall EOC Room (Basement), 355 Main Street.
