P&Z Refers Draft POCD to Council; Public Hearing in June

At a special meeting held on April 6, 2017, the City’s Planning & Zoning Commission approved a motion to refer the Draft 2017 City of West Haven Plan of Conservation & Development (POCD) to Council and the South Central Regional Council of Governments. A draft was submitted to these bodies on April 17, 2017.

The next major step for the POCD planning process will be a public hearing, to be held in June. In anticipation of this event, the POCD will be posted on this website and on the City’s website by the third week of May to give you the opportunity to review the POCD and provide feedback.

Update on the POCD Process

In the several months that have passed since the October 27 Goals & Strategies Workshop, we’ve been working on further developing the strategies that will be included in the POCD and completing drafts of each of the chapters of the report. The Steering Committee has met several times since the October workshop to discuss the goals, fine-tune the strategies, and share their comments on the draft chapters of the report. We anticipate presenting the POCD to the Planning & Zoning Commission next month and then posting it for public review. In the meantime, if you have ideas you’d like to share, or any additional questions or comments, please e-mail contact@planwesthaven.com.

City Goals & Strategies Workshop Summary

Thank you to the more than 50 people who came out to the Savin Rock Conference Center to participate in the City Goals & Strategies Workshop on October 27, despite the cold temperatures and heavy rain. Much like the City Visioning Workshop earlier in the year, the discussion was spirited as participants came together to discuss, evaluate, and prioritize the proposed goals and strategies of the next Citywide Plan, the Plan of Conservation and Development. Click here to view a summary of the City Goals & Strategies Workshop. If you have any questions or comments, please e-mail us at contact@planwesthaven.com.

The next steps include: completing a draft of the full plan document by mid-December and reviewing the draft with the Steering Committee, followed by a presentation of the plan to the Planning & Zoning Commission in January.

Enjoy your upcoming Thanksgiving holiday and stay tuned for more updates in December.
